Fashion photography is one sub-type of photography that is now fast becoming popular. It is a mix of expertise in fashion and in photography. Words associated with it include stylish, lucrative, glamorous, and fun. Some may think that all photographers can be a fashion photographer but this is not exactly true. Fashion photographers require certain skills that not all photographers have. Also, fashion photography needs patience – a lot of it in fact.

1. As a photographer, it is important that you study your subject. Browse as many fashion magazines as possible. This will help you discover your own style in taking shots. You may also purchase books on fashion photography so you could learn its technical side. You can learn tips from these books as well.
2. Be sure that you are well-equipped. You need a very good camera, lighting system, and a tripod for steady shots. Pick equipments that belong to brands that are known to be durable and long-lasting. Also, have a good supply of batteries. You will need it once you start doing photo shoots.
3. Practice with a model. You may ask a friend of yours or perhaps a fashion model who would agree to have her photos taken by you. You may include these photos on your portfolio. Print the copies and study your shots carefully.

5. Create a website wherein you can exhibit your work. You may also join online contests. This will further enhance your talent.
